Where City meets Country
Finbarr McCarthy and Eleanor McGrath raise their four children in Toronto, while being challenged by their organic farming life in Apple Hill, Ontario.
In January 2014, they purchased Springfield Farm – an over 200-year-old farm of 118 acres in the small hamlet of Apple Hill, Ontario in South Glengarry. They have worked hard to establish Springfield Farm in the growing AgriTourism/Local Food economy.
They are active members of local agricultural groups focused on the needs of small farmers and organics, along with hosting two consecutive years of the “Doors Open” and membership in the Ontario East British Home Child Family association.
Eleanor is a member of the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder Community Editorial Board. A great honour for Eleanor was been being the recipient of the South Glengarry Citizen of the Year award 2017 and just this past August, the 2019 SDSG Service Award.
The Three Macs as they are affectionately called are proud to own a small family farm in eastern Ontario, and even prouder to have returned to the region and roots of Eleanor’s Scottish McLeod ancestors.
