Our family sends you and your loved ones the very best this holiday season.
Over the next couple of weeks there are many celebrations and occasions to bring us together as friends, colleagues and a community. At Springfield Farm in 2024, we certainly hosted a few events, welcomed new and old friends to the farm for a round of disc golf, a slice of pizza in our outdoor wood oven, sold farm produce at our new farm stand or just relaxed together after a walk along the Beaudette River.
We were so fortunate to have great corporate sponsors for the sold-out Field and Feast, fabulous volunteers and staff, and the continued farm and environmental grants through ALUS, EFAO, RRCA, OSCIA along with marketing expertise by the EOAN, Ontario Culinary Association, SDG tourism and RTO9. There were three very special WWOOFers at Springfield Farm this year and what a lovely trio from France were Sebastien, Jeanne and Louise. To each of these organizations and individuals, we send you our big farmer Thank you! There is always a further special Thank you to Daniel Blondin, Farm Manager and good friend, and to Remi Sauve, collaborator and good friend who helps us dream big!
In 2025, we invite you to visit us often – we know you will find Springfield Farm the “environmental farm oasis” that we have been creating for the past ten years. The white spruce trees, planted by son Jack, are getting taller along the aging windbreaks offering new habitats for many species, and 10 acres of the ALUS fields are now planted with abandon, native grasses and wildflowers – the “rewilding” has begun on our farm. The disc golf course will be open during maple syrup season and we have snowshoes for you to rent and enjoy a winter round of disc golf or a hike through our Managed Forest. Then into the spring, we will be planting our award-winning hulless certified organic oat seeds and patiently waiting for the burst of garlic and the planting season for potatoes and so many other garden vegetables. Finbarr’s bees will be back to buzzing, pollinating and helping our apple orchard produce a strong crop for the fall. Let’s just say WE CAN’T WAIT TO GET OUR HANDS BACK INTO THE SOIL! Come and join us…The commitment we have to organic farming is the challenge and our love for the Apple Hill terroir of our farm.
With warmth, affection and gratitude, Finbarr, Eleanor, Madeleine, David, Jack, Alannah, Áine and Louis the English Setter, Hobbes and Bernie the cats…
Here are a few snowy snaps from over the years…winter is a wonderland at Springfield Farm.
